MdUL in Mandible Classification
Explain the MdUL's role in mandible classification.

The Mandibular Unit Length (MdUL), which is the distance between Condylion and Gnathion, plays a significant role in the classification of the mandible. Its value relative to the mean of normal subjects influences the determination of whether a mandible is classified as NORMAL, PROGNATHIC (prognathism), or RETROGNATHIC (retrognathism).
In several examples from my knowledge source, the MdUL measurement, in conjunction with SNB and FAng measurements, is critical for classification:

A PROGNATHIC mandible is usually associated with MdUL values that are moderately or considerably above the mean. This classification is particularly apparent when SNB and FAng values also suggest a forward projection of the mandible【10†source】【12†source】【16†source】【17†source】.

RETROGNATHIC mandibles are indicated by MdUL values that are extremely below the mean, especially when SNB and FAng values also suggest a posterior positioning of the mandible relative to the maxilla【11†source】【13†source】【15†source】【16†source】.
These examples illustrate that while MdUL is an important factor in mandibular classification, it should be considered in conjunction with SNB and FAng measurements for accurate categorization. The MdUL measurement contributes to the overall assessment of mandibular position and alignment in relation to the maxilla, which is crucial in diagnosing mandibular deviations.
