Leadership Impact on Culture
I've seen organizations with asshole leaders have great cultures, and orgs with seemingly very kind leaders have awful cultures.
What is the actual leadership quality that causes terrible cultures?
The leadership quality that often leads to terrible cultures is what's known as "fear leadership." This approach can push leaders into being unproductive and damaging, either by keeping themselves constrained or relying on aggression. In contrast, a more positive approach is "love leadership," which drives performance, insists on truth, creates safety through boundaries, invites contribution, embraces humility, and fosters courage. Leaders who adopt fear leadership may inadvertently cultivate a negative culture, despite their intentions or personal demeanor.
